According to the Sunday newspaper Rapport, the quota requirements for the Varsity Cup competitions have been adjusted. The organisers merely adjusting required quotas to that of SARU's targets as set in their "Strategic Transformation Development Plan 2030" which was published late 2019.

For the 2020 season, nine players of colour must be included in the matchday 23 with a minimum of five players on the field. These targets will be increased every year until 2030 when ten players must be on the field with a minimum of fourteen players in the matchday 23.

Not surprisingly, will the TV coverage be limited to one game per Monday due to dying TV viewership. Apart from the first round, all games will be played @ 19h00. Varsity Cup call this an "innovation" but spectators will call it desperation.
